Joy - Sermon for the Third Sunday of Advent

SERMON FOR THE THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT 2006

JOY

TEXT: READ (Luke 2:8-14 . . . the angels’ song)

INTRODUCTION
Despite what you may have heard, the God of the Bible is not the cosmic killjoy. In their breaks

“When you give to the poor, it is like lending to the Lord, and the Lord will pay you back.”
Eugene Peterson dynamically translates it:
“Mercy to the needy is a loan to God.
        And God pays

Power Keys: Forgiveness

Preached: Our Heritage 11/20/77, Montezuma Chapel 11/1/81

Text: John 20:23, Matthew 16:18, Matthew 18:18

I intend to discuss with you the matter of forgiving one another. Please understand that I do not speak as one who has fully "grown up" in the matter of the forgiveness of others, but as one who would is struggling to learn these lessons as well.

I was sitting in a meeting in Colorado Springs and a man, a long time acquaintance of mine, was introduced to speak. He spoke for about 15 or

The Ministry of the Believer-Priest

Preached in Dothan, Alabama 7/15/74, Annual Conference of  the Association of Independent Methodists

Isaiah 46

This is a call to forsake the idol of human tradition and the idle of a humanly-pleasing ministry - and to turn in dependence to God alone.  Restoration then will come.

I don't believe that I am a "doomsayer", but I would like to do my best to be a "realist".  A "Christian realist".  But the mood of our world is increasingly away from a republican government
